How Thrive Within Began

Thrive Within Therapy in Binghamton is a trauma-informed mental health practice co-founded by licensed clinical social workers Shanel Boyce and Roseanne Wilcox. Our partnership began in 2022 after realizing how often traditional systems failed people of color, LGBTQ+ and polyamorous communities, disabled folks, and survivors of complex trauma.

As a Black, disabled, poly, LGBTQ co-founder alongside a co-founder with deep substance use and trauma expertise, we built a space where intersectionality is lived, not theoretical. We now grow a group practice that centers depth, cultural humility, and shared power in every therapeutic relationship.

Who We Serve

Depth over quick fixes, community over isolation

What sets Thrive Within Therapy apart is depth — we don't stop at coping strategies, we work with clients to understand the root causes of what's driving their distress. Our team includes award-winning, community-organizing clinicians with deep cultural humility.

Root-Cause Healing

We go beneath the surface to understand what's really driving distress, not just manage its symptoms.

Community-Rooted

Our clinicians are community organizers first, bringing that same investment into the therapy room.

Training the Next Generation

We educate other clinicians so culturally responsive, trauma-informed care extends beyond our own client list.

Shanel Boyce

Co-Founder

LCSW · LPN since 2009 · MSW, Binghamton University

Shanel brings firsthand understanding to her work as a Black, queer, disabled clinician, shaping a practice built to close the gap for clients who've struggled to find a therapist who truly understands their intersections.

Her practice centers on trauma, racial identity, and building healthy relationships and boundaries — with a specialization in racial trauma, LGBTQ+ care, and support for polyamorous clients. She draws on trauma-focused, culturally sensitive, and strength-based approaches, including Internal Family Systems and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, to help clients move from surviving to feeling genuinely seen and heard.

Meet Roseanne Wilcox

Co-Founder

LCSW · Master CASAC (OASAS, 2017) · MSW, Fordham University

Roseanne believes everyone is capable of healing, growth, and increased wellness, and builds therapy around each client's own treatment goals rather than a single fixed method.

She specializes in supporting transgender and LGBTQIA+ individuals, along with clients navigating trauma, PTSD, and substance use, and focuses on skill-building so the progress clients make is lasting and within their own power to sustain. Her approach draws on trauma-focused, cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, and narrative therapy, grounded in mutual respect, cultural competence, and a non-judgmental space.

From a shared vision to a growing practice

Thrive Within Therapy grew out of a partnership between two clinicians who saw a gap that needed filling. Shanel Boyce (LCSW, LPN since 2009, licensed therapist since 2018) and Roseanne Wilcox (LCSW since 2019, Master CASAC) began working together in 2022, united by a shared commitment to marginalized populations and cultural humility in mental health care.

What started as a shared vision has grown into a group practice that's about more than client care — it's equally invested in educating and training the next generation of clinicians to practice with the same depth and humility.
